Can I file 2016 taxes now and amend later for casualty flood loss to home

My home was flooded in the Aug. 2016 Louisiana catastrophic flood. Can I file my 2016 Fed& State return now and amend them later. I need my refunds now and I will need to hire a professional for the casualty losses, its to complicated and no straight forward answers.
