Can I claim taxes paid on car and RV loans?

Yes, you can claim the sales taxes paid on a car and a RV.

  1. Open (continue) your return if it's not already open.
  2. Inside your program, search for sales tax and then click the "Jump to" link in the search results.
  3. On the Let's Compare screen, click Try Sales Tax or Continue (the button varies depending on your current situation).
  4. When asked how you want to enter your sales tax, choose EasyGuide.
  5. Answer the questions about where you lived, the dates, and your sales tax rate.
    • If you only see the Places You Lived screen, choose Edit to access those questions.
  6. When you get to the Major Purchases screen, answer Yes and follow the onscreen instructions to enter the sales taxes you paid on your vehicle purchase.

Is loan interest on my RV that I use as a main or second home tax deductible?

You can deduct interest you pay on a loan secured by your main home (where you ordinarily live most of the time) and a second home. A second home can include any other residence you own and treat as a second home, and can be a mobile home, house trailer, recreational vehicle, or houseboat that has sleeping, cooking and toilet facilities.

To enter your mortgage interest if you did not receive form 1098 Mortgage Interest:

(To do this, sign into TurboTax and click the orange Take my to my return button.)

3.    Click on Jump to mortgage interest.

4.    Answer Yes to Did you have any home loans in 2016?.

5.    Type in the name of your mortgage company on the Enter your mortgage lender screen. Click Continue.

6.    On the Do any of these uncommon situations apply? screen, click on None of these apply then click Continue.

7.    Enter your mortgage information.
