Can I claim property taxes paid through my escrow?

Yes, you can claim property taxes paid through escrow.  The amount may be reported to you from your lender on Form 1098, line 10.

Here is how to do this in TurboTax Online:

If the taxes were reported from your lender on Form 1098:

  • Go to Federal > Deductions & Credits > Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098)> Add/Edit
  • Choose your bank to expand and edit or add if not already populated
  • Continue until you get to the screen "Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098)"
  • Enter all of the information, including property taxes in the box labeled "Property (real estate) taxes"  and continue

If the 1098 did not report property taxes:

  • Go to Federal > Deductions & Credits > Property (Real Estate) Taxes> Edit
  • Enter the amount and continue
