I was a student the first half of 2023 but started working in the latter half. My parent is claiming me as a dependent but my employer made contributions to an HSA for me. I have declared those contributions as excess and will pay the 6% tax for not withdrawing by the April 2024 deadline. I keep getting an error for Form 8889 T stating that I can not check self for line 3A12 because I am being claimed as an independent. It will not allow me to move forward in filing electronically.

In your situation, the Review normally objects to no entry on Line 2, not Line 3, so I am concerned about what you have entered.
Did you go through the HSA interview? When you did, when you were asked "Was Brad covered by a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) in 2023?", you should have answered, "no". What did you answer?
