Hi there,
I am using TurboTax Online/App. When trying to follow the steps for the Backdoor Roth as per online guides ( https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/retirement-benefits/enter-backdoor-roth-... ), I am not seeing a “Choose Not to Deduct IRA Contributions screen“ as per the referenced above guide’s TurboTax Online, Step 1’s number 5, and I am hitting an unexpected “Income Too High To Deduct an IRA”.
My steps are:
1. In Deductions and Credits
2. Selected Traditional and Roth Contribution
3. Selected only “Traditional IRA”
4. No to “this a repayment/retirement distribution?”
5. Entered my contributed amount
6. No to “did you change your mind?”
7. No to “any excess before 2024”
And then I hit the “Income too high” message.
appreciate any help!
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
It's ok that you received the "income too high" message. The "choose not to deduct" would work for those with a lower income.
Item 5c applies to you in the instructions: If none of your contribution can be deducted, you won't see the option to make part of it nondeductible. Instead, the full amount of your contribution will automatically be nondeductible.
You can continue on to Step 2.

Thank you! Appreciate the clarity
