Are we allowed to enter 12 months of child care expenses when only 3 months both parents worked?

MY wife worked only 3 months in 2016, during that time we had daycare expenses for our two kids. But after 3 months my wife lost job, but my younger kid (4 year) continue to go to regular pre-kindergarten classes.
So when i file child care expenses for the year 2016, should I report all the expenses that i paid for the year (even my wife was NOT working), or are we allowed to report only the amount spend when she was working?

The child care expenses should all be entered, then TurboTax will calculate the amount of the expense that is allowed for the deduction.

The allowable expenses does come down to the lesser of:

  • Your earned income
  • The earned income of your spouse, or
  • The actual expenses
