Are there any deductions for hurricane Irma evacuation expenses ?
Unfortunately, there are no deductions for evacuation expenses.
There is a casualty and theft deduction if you have suffered losses from the hurricane. But ancillary costs are not deductible.
Non-deductible ancillary costs would include items such as:
- temporary lodging,
- generators,
- improvements to prevent future casualties
- clean up costs except to measure the decline in value.
