It is a multistep process. But this FAQ gives full instructions on how to take the credit.
It's not possible. If you would have read the instructions you referred to you would have seen that Turbo Tax does not have the form available. 1116. They say when it is available they will let me know. This program is useless and I cannot use it. I wasted $92 dollars on it. I will try to take it back to SAM'S but doubt they will take it. I spend 18 hours with Turbo Tax, then gave up. I downloaded the forms from IRS.GOV and yes form1116 IS available there. It took me another 10 hours to fill out the forms in PDF. but it saved me over $8,000 in foreign paid taxes. Turbo Tax is no good for me.
PS last year I used it and it also did not deduct $39,000 in capital gains losses. I caught it and corrected it manually.
@helmmar , from your post , it is clear that you are unhappy with the product ( which ever version you were using ). While I am not familiar with the on-line product and very familiar with the 2023 "Home & Business" windows version. Therefore I am totally at a loss to explain why you could not declare foreign tax credit or why the form 1116 was not available. As far as I understand, all versions of windows product contain all the forms but the step=by-step function is limited by version you purchase/use.. Would you be willing to shar with me the facts and circumstances of your case --- this will allow me to simulate your case and at least understand what could have gone wrong and/or why Turbo was mis-behaving ? Please.
I will circle back once I hear from you .
