Another 1314 Right to Claim Question- regarding soc sec wages

I took a bonus of 12k in 2021 and had to repay 6k in 2022.  According to the instructions

I found on turbotax, if I am not itemizing , I should figure out the previous years taxes as

if I had made 6k less and figure my credit from that,  my question is when I am doing this , do I only adjust income in box 1, or do I adjust box 3 also for soc sec wages and reclaim that amout also, that was overpaid?

The IRC 1341 Claim of Right credit is only for the federal income tax.  (Note there may be a similar credit for state income tax, but you will have to do some research since every state might be different.)

To recover the excess social security and medicare tax, you would need to file a form 843.  This is separate from your regular tax return and does not have the same April 18 deadline.  Turbotax does not support this form, you will have to do it manually and mail it in.  You will need to explain the circumstances, include proof of the wages and the repayment, and you will need a letter from your former employer in which they verify that they will not be adjusting your SS and medicare wages or taxes.
