Filed the 2019 Tax Return. Form 5695 was used and $278 credit was included in the refund. The federal was accepted, state is still pending. Numbers were $2631/$222 for federal and state.
Realized Form 8606 was in error, so decided to amend 2019. After hitting the amend button, numbers went from $2631/222 to $278/0 before changing anything. Same as $278 credit above in Form 5695 above. Coincidence?
On the 1040X line 7, the energy credit populates A 0, B 278, C 278. Shouldn't that line be A 278, B 0, C 278? Unless you have an explanation, I'll sit on this a couple of months and try again.

IGNORE the Refund-O-Meter while amending a return ... it will only confuse you.
Look at the form 1040X …
Column A should have the figures from the original return, Column C the corrected figures and Column B the differences between the other 2 which needs an explanation on page 2 of the form 1040X.
If you completed it correctly you will see an entry on either line 16 OR 18:
On line 16 should be the amount you paid with your original return.
On line 18 should be the amount of your original refund you received.
Then you will see your extra refund on line 22 OR the new balance due you need to pay on line 20.
On the 1040X line 7, the energy credit populates A 0, B 278, C 278. Shouldn't that line be A 278, B 0, C 278?
If the column A is not the same as the original return then you made changes before you started the amendment process ... now you must undo the change and start the amendment process again.
If you started amending your tax return by accident and would like to cancel the amendment:
