Additional Property Taxes

I paid property taxes on the home I own which sits on approximately 63 acres of land divided into 9 tax parcels.  My home is only taxed on 2 of those parcels.  How do I include the taxes paid on the rest of my property?  Also, I paid back taxes and penalties on the parcels.  Can I include those payments in my 2022 tax filing?

Additional Property Taxes

In your itemized deductions, you can include real estate tax on any property you own in the United States that is not used for business. It doesn't matter whether it's your home. Just add it all together.

On your 2022 tax return you can include in your deduction for real estate tax any tax that you paid in 2022 for a prior year, but you cannot deduct the penalties or interest on the back taxes.

(You can deduct real estate tax that you pay for a past year in the year that you pay it, but you cannot deduct real estate tax that you pay in advance for a future year.)

@CRET - this will only help on your taxes if you itemize your deductions.

And if you do itemize, your state income tax, property tax and any other local taxes are limited to $10,000 when you itemize.
