1095-A file Married separately

Hi
I need your help with my situation :
My visa is F1
My wife's visa F2
We are non-resident aliens so we have to file married separately.

We received 1095-A for 2022 that includes both of us  when we applied we checked that we will file jointly on the marketplace website due to a lack of tax knowledge

Now can you please help us with what to do? and should we file both of us 1040nr?

If your spouse did not get a 1095-A

TurboTax will ask you to enter a 1095-A on both tax returns.

  • The next screen will ask you about your health plan being shared, so check the box.
  • Then you'll see a screen asking for shared policy info. You enter the following:
    • Enter the Social Security number in box 5 (recipient's SSN) on the original 1095-A
    • Enter the starting month and ending month that you had the insurance. (Probably the entire year)
  • Now you'll be asked to enter percentages for Your Premium, Second lowest cost silver plan (SLCSP) and advanced payment.
  • You should see amounts on the original 1095-A, columns A, B, and C.
  • You both should agree on what percentage of those amounts you’ll each claim it on your return.
  • You can use anything from 0% to 100%, as long it all adds up to 100%.

To post your 1095-A:  On the sidebar select Deductions & Credits

  1. Scroll down to Medical
    1. HSA, MSA Contributions
    2. Medical Expenses
    3. Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A)
  2. Did you receive Form 1095-A for your health insurance plan?
    1. If Yes
    2. Continue
  3. Complete the form

On the 1095-A, you should not enter "0" zeros.  This will cause a Review Error.  Simply leave the area blank.
