Why do I owe Michigan taxes when I lived in Colorado for school and only worked in Colorado?

Is MI your home state-----the state where your parents who claim you as a dependent live? And you are only away from home in CO while attending school? If so, you are still considered to be a resident of MI and should file a NON-resident return for CO and a resident return for MI. One state will give you credit for tax paid to the other state.
