We are a volunteer host family for a J1 VISA student and I was told I qualify for a tax credit for this. Where do I claim this?

See https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p526.pdf and start on page 4, Expenses Paid for Student Living With You. If you qualify, it's claimed in the charitable contributions section under the Deductions & Credits tab.
