I received a trust capital gain k1 for HI. I am resident in MI and want to delete the capital gain from my Michigan tax return so I do not get double taxed. So far I can not seem to find a way. Any suggestions?

If you are a resident in Michigan, you must report the income on your tax return. You will be able to claim a credit for the taxes paid to Hawaii so you are not double taxed.
Thank you for the rapid reply. One further question. What do I file with the Michigan tax folks to claim my refund for the Hawaii taxes paid. Just my HI return or is there some form?
Thanks again.

In order to claim the credit for taxes paid to another state, there is a section in the Michigan return that you will need to complete.
Look for the screen titled, 'Take a look at Michigan credits and taxes' and then click Start or Update beside the Other Credits > Other State Tax Credit section to get started.
If you worked on your non-resident Hawaii return first, the information may fill in automatically.
