I filed my NJ taxes on time but they were rejected. I was told by Turbo Tax that they were working on an update and to file an extension and pay any taxes that I owed. I filed the extension and paid NJ through their secured site before the deadline. After the update instead of owing money I now had a refund due. I sent the corrected return in and was rejected again. I called Turbo Tax and they told me to wait for another update on the following Tuesday. When I checked for the update it said it was up to date. I called again to tell them that there was no update and they told me to try again anyway. I sent my return again and it was accepted the following day. My question is if I am now due a refund what happens to the payment that I sent them? It is not included in the updated return since I sent the payment before the update. Will this be sent as part of my refund or will it be an over payment for next year?

you are due a refund plus the payment you made through the secure site.
But you did not record that payment on your tax return.
Now you have to wait till NJ figures out what you did.
It is not applied to next year.
Thanks. I figured that was the case. The problem was that it came to me too late after I sent them in again. I was so concerned that they were rejected (which has never happened to me in 40 years) that I didn't think until it was too late. I should have included the extra payment in my amended return. Stupid mistake on my part.
