The error checker in TT2021 keeps taking me to Line 4a of the Schedule CA (540) form, which is an entry for IRA Distributions. I have no IRA distributions yet, so I've entered "0" and also left blank, but the error checker keeps directing me back to that line. I called TT's help line, but didn't get an answer- in fact, I got hung up on. I don't know if this will keep me from being able to e-file my State Return.

CA is still releasing forms. You may have some forms that are not yet ready, creating the odd situation you describe. The state and federal governments approve the most common forms first and work their way down the list. Please see the links for form availability. Once a date shows up, the reality should be close. Once released, Turbo Tax will work quickly to get it working in the program.
Otherwise, go back through your federal and make sure you have no 1099-R forms showing. You could have 1099-R forms from a previous year that needs to be deleted.
Thanks @AmyC . However, your link shows that the Schedule CA (540) is updated, yet I still have the same issue. I've never received any 1099R forms thus I've never input any values in the return. Please help!!!
Some question that you answered has made the program think that you had retirement income. Go to the section of Wages & Income for retirement income and click the little garbage can to the right of the form the program created. If that doesn't work you can delete the form directly-
To Delete a form:
Select Tax Tools from the menu on the left
Then select Tools
When the new menu pops up select Delete a Form
You will see a list of all the forms in your return
Find the form that you want to delete (1099-R)
Select the Form
Click Delete on the right
Tax forms are interconnected. While you are in this screen don’t start deleting forms you don’t recognize.
Hi @RobertB4444. I do not have ANY form 1099-R in my forms list. I also did not answer anything that asked if I had retirement income. I have also gone back and re-visited the Retirement Plans & Social Security section and once again indicated NO income of that sort. The only thing that I can possibly relate that type of indication is on the W2's when it asks what is checked in Box 13, which retirement plan is checked. But this has been this way for as long as I remember and I've never had this problem before.
I'm thinking there's a glitch in the software. Would love to have someone prove me wrong. 🙂
I have the same issue. I eventually clicked on the plus sign which took me to a box in which I had to describe the contribution and place an amount. I typed in "not applicable" and re-entered 0 as the amount. When I did the recheck, it moved the error (the blue box) to the amount for column B, which is also 0. This is where I'm currently stuck.
STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE! But the explanation message is a bit different now:
"Schedule CA:_ your return has a mortgage interest adjustment which will require an update in order to ensure that the calculations are correct. To receive an update, select Check for Updates from the Online menu to connect to our website."
I checked for updates, and none were offered. It is still taking me to Line 4a of the Form.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only answer anyone has is "They're working on it" which isn't as satisfying as "here's how you fix that" but has to do for now.
Here's the statement from TurboTax
They are aware and working on it and it should be cleared up in the next 7 days.
Thank you so much for finding this and letting me know. I hope the other issue I have with TT accepting my first 1098 mortgage interest amount get fixed along with this. That one is costing me over $200 !!!
Yeah!!! They fixed it! Both of my issues have been fixed, and are now at the previous levels to the 2/2 update. Thanks everyone!
