State Taxes

I live in one state and have rental income in another.

Do I need to show the deductions from the state the rental is located in (deductions which reduced the taxable income from that property) as additions to income in the state I reside?

Please clarify. What does is your resident state and what state is your rental in?

Resident state is South Carolina.

Rental property state is Colorado.

You may need to file two state returns.   If your out-of-state rental property generates income, you'll need to file a nonresident return in that state.  But even if it doesn't, the state may require you to file a return anyway, or you might file to take advantage of state-specific credits, such as property tax credits. Check with the state Department of Revenue for state-specific rules and regulations.

If you are required to file - You will report all of your income, including the rental on your federal return.   Your resident state, SC, will tax all of your income on your resident state return.  But you will file a nonresident return to report your rental income and expenses to the state of Colorado.    Do the nonresident CO return first.   TurboTax will give you credit on your SC resident return for any taxes you pay to Colorado for the rental property.

How do I file a nonresident return?

The rental property in Colorado generated $22,100 in rents.  Expenses were $11853.00 which means the taxable income showing on the Schedule E and carried over the 1040 shows as $10,247.00.

My question is do I need to show as an addition to income for my State of South Carolina return the $11853.00?  Right now, I show the income on the South Carolina return as $10,247.00.  Thank you for your assistance.

There is not a separate Schedule E the state requires- they accept the net income/loss from the federal return.  @CJC1
