Hello - My federal got accepted but the state was rejected with the above code. I did schedule a payment when I filed it. Does that payment go through even though the state was rejected. I don't want to file an extension and make a payment if this will will go through. It's been a few days and the money has not been withdrawn for the federal or state and tomorrow is the deadline. Any help is appreciated.

Any Federal payment would have gone through, but a state payment would not. You can probably pay directly on the NJ tax website.
TurboTax suggests filing for an extension since the TurboTax software won't be updated until 5/20/2021. The software doesn't offer any instructions for filing a State Extension. The message I received is on or after 5/20/2021 update the software and review, then re-file. New Jersey requires an 80% payment for the extension to be approved. I tried filing an extension and submitting a payment using 80% of the estimated payment and the request was denied using different credit cards. After some digging I found New Jersey Division of Taxation wants 80% of the gross taxes owed. Line 44 of form 1040. I waited sometime and went back into the site to re-enter my information. I was going to try it again using the estimated payment amount first. The message I received "You have already submitted an Extension request on 5/16/2021". I didn't receive any confirmation, (request #, email or text). New Jersey Division of Taxation only has normal business hours so I couldn't get anymore information. I have no idea if the extension will be approved, my payment didn't go through and after midnight tomorrow, will I be hit with a penalty for late payment?
I had the same thing happen. The message I received when I checked the status was "The TurboTax update will be available on or after May 20, 2021. You will need to request an extension to file your New Jersey return and pay at least 80% of the tax that you might owe no later than 2021 in order to avoid a late filing penalty. Then you can file your NJ return later after TurboTax has been updated, Visit the New Jersey Division of Taxation website for more information on filing an extension." The New Jersey Taxation website wouldn't allow me to enter a payment. It kept erroring out and I used different credit cards.
Hi, the error message was saying that Turbotax software will be updated today to address the issue. Has the NJ software update been released yet?
Hey @turbotax - are you people going to answer this? My return is stuck in pending. I couldnt do ANY of the instructions you told me to do (pay 80%, dance on my head, file an extension, blah blah blah) because the NJ website wouldnt let me do explicitly what you told me to do. I went on Twitter and was basically given a boilerplate response that is about as useless as can be.
So..in short, your software doesnt work, your instructions dont work, your support stinks and now I am going to have to pay penalties because you guys and the bonehead state of New Jersey couldnt get your acts together.
And the kicker is - I just want to pay the entire thing and I cant even do that.
If you want to pay your entire tax due
visit njtaxation.org and pay online.
(at least six clicks required).
I paid that way and it went through no problems.
an extension of time won't help you, before or after May 17, if you owe the state.
That's great except I filed AND attempted to have it all paid on time - TurboTax did zero due diligence in informing their customers about this and their incompetent process and procedure is the reason I had an issue, not anything I did.
I will go away now.
hi have you solved your issue yet? please share some guidance if you have! i have the same issue as you and i was rejected with the same code. turbotax now tells me i need to amend my return. please help thanks in advance
Hello turbotax has this error been resolved yet? We are now 1 week late filing our NJ return, I have placed several calls to Turbotax and no one I have spoken to is even aware of this software issue or how to resolve. I spent 40 minutes on 5/21 with one of your CPA who reached out to several departments without resolution. I was advised to wait a few more days and call back.
