Notice of Assignment received

I received a notice for my states DOR saying Turbo Tax said I owed them $457 but the statement of debt I received from TurboTax said I owed $342. I now owe my state and have to pay penalties and fees. My state said only Turbo Tax can correct the mistake by submitting an amended statement of debt. How do we get this rectified?

You do not say why the state changed the amount owed.    TurboTax does not receive any information from the IRS or state after you file your tax return so no one at TT knows why the state says you owe more---no one at TT knows, for instance, if you owed back tax to the state, or some other debt like traffic fines etc to the state that could have increased your tax due.   The state should send a detailed letter of explanation of why they changed your tax due.

I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE IRS/STATE

TurboTax does not receive any information from the IRS or your state after your return was filed, so no one at TurboTax knows about a letter you received from the IRS or the state.

AUDIT SUPPORT

TurboTax has a special phone number for help with IRS/state tax letters, which will be easier than going through regular Customer Support.   At the page below, click on the blue button that says "Get Help from TurboTax Support".  Then it will ask you what tax year is your letter.  Then it will ask you what the letter concerns. Then it will show you the phone number during posted business hours.

Turbotax bases the amount owed (or refund) only on your entries. it has no way of know if the entries are correct.  so if you make an incorrect entry, you can up owing more. all Turbotax guarantees is that it computes the taxes correctly based on what's entered.  overrides void the quraantee

if you accept your state's changes to your tax return, there is nothing to do .

Are you going to claim that the state is wrong in adjusting your tax return?
