NJ Return status Pending even 3 days after filing

Filed on due date, refund due.  NJ return not accepted last year (2022) until 26 April.  Filed on due date, refund due.  I assume NJ is just dragging their feet on refunds--again.

Does it help to call TurboTax?  Do you think the acceptance was due to the call to TurboTax? Seems to me TurboTax is only telling people to wait? Mine was filed on the 15th and it's now 6 days still pending. Never had this happen to me before.  My Federal and NY returns accepted on the same day.

I wish I saw your post earlier.  I was going through a lot of posts. TurboTax didn't suggest to file an extension before deadline.  Their posts say as long as you file before midnight of 4/18, you will be fine.  I filed on 4/15 and still pending.  Never had this happen to me before.  After reading your post, I just realized another issue.  On my return, I asked the tax due to be debited from my account (Fed and NY already did on 4/18), NJ hasn't since they haven't accepted my return. Does this mean I would be considered late filing and late payment?  This would be very unreasonable since I did everything several days before deadline.  TurboTax also says the date I put on my return for debit to happen is considered my payment date regardless when the debit actually takes place.  Shall I be concerned?  Getting anxious now.

My NJ Return has not been accepted yet either, it's been 5 days for me. The same thing happened last year, and when it was finally accepted I had no issues. Hopefully the same this year. TT said the transmission date should suffice. If the Fed. Wasn't accepted it would be a different story.

TurboTax doesn't always give the best advice.  NJ used to accept within 48 hours.  Last year and this year have been a train wreck.  I have filed for an NJ extension now three years in a row. 

As I said I used the NJ Taxation website.  I also used it to pay my NJ taxes and estimated taxes outside of TurboTax and they were debited from my account on the Due Date as they were supposed to be.

I can't answer your other questions.

Same here.  Federal and NY State return accepted the same day as filed on 4/15/23. NJ still pending. Don't know if it is help to call Turbotax. I guessed it is easier to get through the line to talk to a real person after 4/18/23.

It is my first time as well. I was getting anxious since 4/17/23 that's why I came here looking for help. Sorry I don't have the expertise to answer your question.

Just got off phone with a TurboTax expert.  Not helpful.  Told me my return was transmitted to NJ but can't provide the time stamp for me.  Told me to go to NJ website to find out status and if delayed debit of tax amount will be a problem.  Would not confirm to me that I'm ok since I filed on time and that I put down 4/17 as the date to debit my account for tax due.  Trying to reach live assistance at TurboTax has always been a frustration and the couple of times I spoke to them has not been helpful.  Wonder if there is another tax program that's better for next year.

I run my taxes through both TurboTax and TaxAct.  It gives me check on my entries since the two programs ask for the data in different ways.  IMO, TaxAct is the better program.  The time I had my NJ e-filing rejected, TaxAct flagged the problem but TurboTax did not.  This year neither program put up a red flag so I hope that is a good sign. 

If this current Pending problem is on the NJ side, then changing programs won't help. 

On the other hand it makes me question e-filing NJ next year.

I had no problem in the past.  Just went to NJ website, didn't see anywhere I can check that they received my return or status.  They never answered phone calls.  I did find this sentence on their website: 

"Generally, we process returns filed using computer software faster than returns filed by paper. Electronic returns typically take a minimum of 4 weeks to process.

Processing of paper tax returns typically takes a minimum of 12 weeks."

How can it be "minimum" of 4 weeks when Federal and NY can process on the same day?

I think I just have to wait now.  Filing a paper return now is still considered late and if processing takes 12 weeks, I would be even more screwed.  If I pay my tax now on their website, what if the state debit my account again when they process my return?  I don't have enough money in the account for duplicate payment and getting the extra payment back would be even more of a hassle, I'm sure.   

Never heard of TaxAct before.  I moved to FL in December.  Good thing I won't have to deal with NJ next year.  So frustrating.

If the taxes have been paid, I don't think there are bad consequences if the filing is accepted.  If the filing is rejected, then it will be after the grace period for re-transmission and I think you have to mail in the return with the corrections, along with arguments of why it should not be considered a late filing, which NJ could accept or reject.  In my case, I would use the confirmation code for the extension.

I don't know about the case where the direct deposit instructions are contained in the filing as to whether that would be considered timely or late.
