My nephew is a professional musician and tours. This year he has state income declared in CA (his state of residency), CT, IL, LA, MI, NY, OH, OK, PA, and TX. TX has no state taxes and he's under the threshold for IL. NY's income is substantial so I'll buy that state for turbo tax. The other states are minimal, but require filing. That leaves 6 states. Is there a way to deal with those without buying 6 more state through turbo tax?

If you have checked the Department of Revenue websites or another source for all of the states mentioned and confirmed that CT, LA, MI, OH, OK, and PA will all require filing based on the income earned in those states, you could opt to file paper returns for those states. Some states also now provide a portal to allow taxpayers to file online directly with the state.
By completing the Federal, California, and New York returns in TurboTax, you will have much of the work done.

Thank you. I was kind of afraid that would be the only option.
