Living and remotely working in FL for company headquarters in IL. Do I have to pay IL tax?
I was working in 2018 for this company in IL. I moved with my family to FL in Sept 2018 and I started working remotely for this company in FL from my home. After move company was still withholding my IL tax for rest of 2018 and all 2019. My W-2's for 2018 & 2019 shows IL tax withholding. Friend of mine told me that I should pay tax in IL when I was working and living in. He said that when I move I shouldn't pay tax in IL. Should I or no? Do I have to contact company to correct my W-2 or I have to pay IL tax.

Sorry my friend told that I should not pay tax in IL
That is correct. You should not be paying Illinois state tax now that you live in Florida. You are required to pay tax in the state where you work, not the state where your employer is located. Since you live in a state with no income tax you are not required to file a state return. However, you should file a nonresident Illinois state return this year to claim a refund of tax withheld. Please view this TurboTax FAQ for more information and follow the hyperlink and follow the instructions to file your nonresident state return.
