Estimated State Tax Payments

TurboTax is applying my estimated state tax to both my state of residency (correct) and my nonresident. How do I eliminate it from the nonresident?

Go to the section in your Federal return where the state estimated payments were entered and double-check that you also entered the state for which the payment was made.  Otherwise, there is nothing to tell the program which state the payments belong to.

Use the following steps to revisit that section:

• On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner) 
• This opens a box where you can type in “estimated tax payments” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
• The search results will give you an option to “Jump to estimated tax payments”
• Click on the blue “Jump to estimated tax payments” link 
• Click Update beside State estimated taxes for 2022
