Amending my return after I file. & what does W-2c deferred mean.

Hello I think my might have to Amend my taxes because I am trying to figure out how I got a lower refund when I did my taxes. when I was going through the form, I was prompted to put down the information that was stated on my W2. I am not sure what I did wrong, but back in 2018 or 2019 my dad claimed me on his taxes and I couldn’t get the stimulus check. Although  when I was filing out my 2020 taxes, it asked the question of whether I received the economic relief bill and I put no. So I don’t  know if that’s where I messed up. For my federal I was  suppose to receive $2000 & at least $83 for State. Remind my federal was accepted but my state was rejected, but I had to got back and edit and fix the mistakes which was accepted. When I went back to view my tax return the only thing I will be getting is the relief bill of 1,800. So so do you think the IRS will make the corrections for me or end up calling for the right amount? And what’s with this W-2c? Is this going to effect my refund?

The 1040-X amended return form for 2020 won't be available on TT until the end of March.

Did you receive a W-2C?  If not, ignore the message.

Form W-2c, Corrected Wage and Tax Statement, is a corrected version of your W-2. This indicates that your employer made some type of correction to your original W-2 form. Depending on what the correction is, you may need to amend your return.

If your e-file is still pending, you won't be able to make changes until the IRS either accepts or rejects your return. If your return is accepted, you may have to amend your return. If your return is rejected, you can remove your W-2, enter your W-2C and refile your return.

If you need to amend, please follow the directions on the How do I amend my 2020 return?

First, make sure you really need to amend and that your 2020 return was accepted in TurboTax Online or paper-filed through the mail. You can't amend a return that hasn't been filed yet.

  1. Sign in to TurboTax.
  2. Scroll down to Your tax return & documents (you may need to select Show), select 2020 and then Amend (change) return.
    • If you only see the option to amend 2019 or earlier, it's because you can't amend an unfiled 2020 return. Instead, just select Pick up where you left off, make your changes, and disregard the rest of these instructions.
  3. Select Amend using TurboTax Online.
  4. Carefully follow the instructions. Don't worry if your refund changes to $0. This is normal on amended returns.
  5. You can e-file your 2020 amended federal tax return, but most states require amendments to be printed and filed by mail.
  6. If e-filing, you’ll review, sign and transmit your federal return. If not, we'll give you instructions to print and mail your amended return.

Three weeks after mailing your amended return, you can start tracking it at the IRS Where's My Amended Return? tracking tool.  Please allow at least 16 weeks for the IRS to process your amended return.

Processing times for amended state returns vary from state to state. If it's been more than 12 weeks since you mailed your amended state return, and you haven't heard anything, we suggest you contact your state tax agency.
