I'm using Turbotax desktop. My partner and I are in a RDP in California.
I've prepared and filed our separate (single-status) federal returns to the IRS.
Now I'm trying to file our joint California return but it's telling me I can't efile because I obviously don't want to file a joint federal return.
Just confirming that my only option to mail in my California return?

Yes, unfortunately, you will have to mail the RDP return. TurboTax cannot efile the state return if the federal return is not also efiled through TurboTax. Since the California state return is based off federal numbers, they want to make sure they are filed together (or at least linked).
I have efiled my federal return and it was accepted. Now, I am trying to efile the RDP state return. Both of these are through TurboTax by the way. Since this is the mock RDP return, I select do not file Federal just the state return. It displays a message stating this return cannot be filed before the Federal return.
How do I file the state return?
Please follow the steps in How do I prepare our RDP return if we live in California, Nevada, or Washington state?
