Dear Support,
Filing jointly. Husband and wife both live in NJ. Husband works in NJ, wife works in NYC. Doing the NY State tax portion. Turbotax is asking
"new york income allocation
enter the amount of federal income that was derived from new york sources, if none, enter zero.
note generally, interest and divident income is taxed in your state of residence regardless of where they came from unless they were related to a business that you were operating in New York State."
Federal Income New York Source Portion
Divident Income (this number was already pre-filled with a number that I entered during the federal taxes portion)
but the New York Source Portion was not pre-filled, it is asking me to put in a number there.
what should I put under New York Source Portion?
Thank you so much! Really appreciate your help.

The NY amount should be the wife's income earned in NY. Don't allocate any interest income or dividend to NY. Those go to your home state, NJ.
Thank you so much for such a quick reply and your help.
"The NY amount should be the wife's income earned in NY. Don't allocate any interest income or dividend to NY. Those go to your home state, NJ."
"The NY amount should be the wife's income earned in NY." (this part, i understand, i will input her entire NY income from box 1 of the W2
"Don't allocate any interest income or dividend to NY. Those go to your home state, NJ."
which I think, if i understand correctly, you are referring to this:
Federal Income NY Source Portion
Divident Income (this number was prefilled) (wife's salary box 1 of w2)
The prefilled number was the total of the 1099-DIV that I put in for myself and my wife during the Federal portion of the tax application.
If it was already hard coded, pre-filled, then how can I "Don't allocate any interest income or dividend to NY. Those go to your home state, NJ."
Thank you again, I hope I explained myself understandably. I apologize if this was confusing. Thank you so much for your help.
