NY State e-file ineligibility

After inputting all my Federal and State information, I am getting a message that my NY State return is "Not Eligible for Electronic Filing".  The reason shown is :Return claims a Solar Wind Energy Credit Carryover".  However, I did not claim any credit carryover from my 2021 return nor have any Solar and Wind Energy credit claims for 2022.  In fact I've never claimed this type of credit.  I've reviewed all my inputs several times and can't find how to fix this.  Any suggestions?

My first suggestion is retrying the steps to get you to the solar credit carryover page and checking if there is a carryover listed for whatever year.  To do that please follow these steps:

    1. Click on State Taxes and then Your State Returns
    2. Click on "Edit" at the NY prompt then Continue
    3. Click on "Update" at Credits and Other Taxes
    4. Click "Continue" at the Child Care prompt, if any
    5. Scroll down and Click on "Start" or "Update" under "Your Home" at the "Unused Solar Energy Credit Carryover"
    6. Check for any entry and if there is one click on the entry and delete it.
    7. Click continue
    8. Continue on until you return to the main credit screen.
    9. Click Done with Credits

If there was an entry in the carryover listing you should be fine after deleting it, go back to the screen on the left and follow these steps:

    1. Click on Tax Tools, then Tools
    2. Click on "Delete a Form", all the forms that are part of your return should show here
    3. Scroll down to "Other Tax Credits and Taxes worksheet" and click delete.  If you do have other tax credits for NY, you will have to re-enter them after deletion.
    4. Scroll to the bottom and click on "Continue with my return" and you should be good to go.

JosephS1, thanks for your quick response.

I followed your advice step by step and it worked perfectly.  There was a stray entry on the "Unused Solar Energy Credit Carryover" page.  I got ride of it and all worked out.  However, I'm not sure how it got there to begin with.  I do use the "upload last years tax return" option to start out each new years tax return.  Perhaps there was a "gremlin" in that process some where.

    Thanks again for your help!
