NY NJ question

I am a NY resident who works in NJ. I keep getting the error that TP can not be greater.

IT-112-R (NJ): Tax Amount - TP should not be greater than the tax imposed by the other state.

NY NJ question

To clear this error, you have to enter the correct amount of New Jersey tax, as well as your refund or balance due, on the screens of your New York return.

Please follow the instructions below:

  1. Enter your New York return.
  2. On the page, You Just Finish Your New York Return, click Start or Update next to Credits and Other Taxes.
  3. Continue until you reach the page, Take a look at New York credits and taxes, click Start or Update next to Taxes Paid to Another State.
  4. Enter your information on the following screens.
  5. On the screen Enter New Jersey Information, you will need to enter the correct amounts for your total tax withheld and estimated tax payments, as well as your refund or balance due to NJ. If you are using TurboTax Online, please follow the instructions here to preview your NJ return and get the correct amounts. If you are using TurboTax Desktop, you can go to Forms and view your NJ-1040NR.
    • The total tax withheld and estimated tax payments would be from the NJ-1040NR, Line 50 & 51.
    • If you are due a refund, it would be shown on Line 64.
    • If you have a balance due, it would be shown on Line 63.
    • Enter the amounts from those lines in the appropriate boxes.
  6. Continue through your return.
