Hello, I am using free file and it is very easy to use and I successfully finished my federal. This year I worked in more than one state but my W2 shows it all going to my resident state. I have started with my non resident state but I don’t see where to input or allocate the income. I get to the screen that says for each type if income it will ask me if it was earned in the non resident state but when I press continue it asks me about income in years prior to 2020 and then moves on to deductions. Can you tell me in which screens I input the monies I earned in the non resident state?
Thanks so much

Which is your home state, and what are the two states where you worked? They might have a reciprocal tax agreement.
Thanks for the response. I don’t believe they have reciprocal agreement, resident state is CA and non-resident is AL and OK. How would you suggest I proceed?
Thanks
Hello
Thanks for the reply. I am having trouble inputing my income for my non-resident state. As I answer the questions, it asks about my income for the previous year but I do not see where to specify what portion of my income was earned in the non resident state for 2020. Could you tell me which screens in the non-resident return allow me to do this? I then have two other non-resident states and then can finish with my resident state. I am using free file.
Thanks very much
It depends, because each state interview is different. On a number of state returns, you are given screens to allocate your income, but not so with either Alabama or Oklahoma, at least with wage income reported on Form W-2. For that, you must use the W2 screen, and add a line for Alabama and enter how much income was earned in Alabama, then add a line for Oklahoma and do the same. Since this is not what is on your W-2, you will likely have to paper-file both of these returns, and probably for California as well if California requires a copy of the other states' returns to apply the out-of-state credit.
Hopefully the system will allow you to e-file, but there are no other direct allocation screens for either Alabama or Oklahoma on wage income earned.
