NJ State return for Statement for Wages, Salaries and Tips shows Year 2019

Hi.  I just printed my NJ State Tax paperwork and noticed that while flipping through the documents, the year "2019" was printed in the upper right hand corner of the document related to "Statement for Wages, Salaries, and Tips".  All the other paperwork properly shows the year "2020" but for some reason, Turbo Tax printed this form out with "2019".  The numbers within the document are correct in that it relates to my 2020 wages.  Is this a glitch or an issue?  Should I not submit my return yet?

Thanks!

I'm not sure why you are seeing the 2019 year, accept that it may be for comparative purposes. However, the wage statement will not be included with your tax return when it is e-filed, so as long as the wages on line 1 of your form 1040 and the tax withheld on line 25 is correct, it will not be an issue so you can file your tax return.

Thanks for the reply ThomasM125.  I'm not e-filing my state and although I printed only those documents which needed to be filed, this doc came up.  I noticed it was part of my last year's NJ 1040 as well and there it did show "2019" properly but while doing my 2020 doc, it came back up with "2019".  Its not a comparison because it only has my current 2020 details within it.  What's more odd is that I was able to find the document within Turbo Tax and when I see it on screen, the form shows "2020" but when it prints, it shows "2019".  I was unable to locate that form within NJ tax site at all so it may be a worksheet but given that it was supplied as "official submission" docs by TT, I assume it's required.  TT told me delete delete my app and reinstall but I really don't want to do that unless it is an absolute last resort.  As silly as it sounds, does anyone know if crossing out "2019" in the header and hand writing "2020" is acceptable or are there any other ideas?

If you are sure the information being reported is for 2020 then it would be acceptable to simply cross out the year and correct it. Besides, since it is not a form or schedule it is just for informational purposes, to aid in the processing of the return, but not a required component of it.

Thank you.  I plan on just waiting until this weekend to see what my friend gets knowing his tax situation will result in the same document.  If it does and he gets the same issue, I'll update the doc manually.  Thanks again ThomasM125!

Thank you for creating this post @Caballo.

I am seeing the same issue that you mentioned "2019" printed, but "2020" shown in the app. Further, if I "Delete Form", the Wage Statement gets instantly recreated.

This seems incredibly sloppy by Intuit / Turbotax whether a) the form should print "2020" or b) not generated as part of the "official forms required for filing".

Thanks to @Caballo @ThomasM125 and @W799pscmah for your posts.

Like @Caballo I am not filing electronically.  There are clergy specific federal adjustments (Pub 517) that get attached to state returns and which are not included by TurboTax in efile for Federal or state.

My questions:

  1. Is the New Jersey “Statement for Wages, Salaries, and Tips” a worksheet completely authored by TurboTax or is it based on something in New Jersey tax instructions/forms/code?  If the latter, a reference to the New Jersey associated item(s) would be helpful if anyone knows the associated item.
  2. Since @ThomasM125  points at that the New Jersey “Statement for Wages, Salaries, and Tips” does not transmit with e-filing, is there a reason to include it in a mailed print return? I do have one item of "other income" not on my W-2, but as long as my NJ-1040 line 15 "Wages, salaries, tips, and other employee compensation" includes that small amount and line 15 exceeds the W-2 reported amount, it seems that the worksheet would be unnecessary (especially since omitted in e-file).

Thank you! RevEd1

The statement of wages, salaries and tips is a TurboTax generated schedule. You do not have to include it with a mailed return, but you can include it if you think it would aid the individual who will process the tax return in understanding your entries on the tax return.

I had a similar issue.  I had Other Income of Trustee fees not reported on a 1099.  I entered them for 2020.  The Other Income schedule for NJ prints 2019 in the upper right corner.

I also had Tax Exempt Interest (including dividends from mutual funds) of over $10,000.  The NJ return prints a supplemental schedule to be filed titled Tax Exempt Interest Summary (support for Line 16b).  This also printed with 2019 in the upper right corner.
