I can't file my 2023 taxes without my 5 digit pin, need help getting my pin, I had it written down and can't find it
The 5 digit pin is a number you created last year when you e-filed your return. To e-file this year's return, you need EITHER the 5 digit pin you created last year (you create a new one each time you e-file) OR last year's AGI number - you do not need both. The 5 digit pin you created last year is not recorded anywhere unless you wrote it down, so it is probably easier to use last year's AGI number if you don't remember the pin you used last year.
There is a 6 digit IP pin that only some taxpayers need - the IRS issues those in identity theft situations. Don't confuse those 2 pins. Most people do not have an IP PIN.
Good afternoon I need to retrieve my 5 digit pin from year2022
The 5 digit e-filing PIN is required to electronically file your tax return. You choose a 5 digit e-filing PIN the first time you e-file, and use it every year thereafter.
If you don't remember it, you can use your AGI (adjusted gross income) from last year's tax return. This is found on line 11 of last year's IRS form 1040 tax return.
@Toblessed63
You actually do need both. It will not let me continue without putting my 5 digit self select pin.
I don't know my five digit pin
There is not a way to retrieve the 5 digit self-select PIN that you used to electronically sign your return. You will need to enter your 2023 AGI in order to verify your identity if you do not know the PIN number. If you used TurboTax to file your 2023 return, then the AGI number should be filled in automatically.

I need to have a 5 digit pin number to efile my 2024 taxes.
The 5-digit pin can be any number that you'd like it to be. It is a self-selected pin.
@jtjones
This is not true. My wife has entered her 5 digit Pin. We have entered the AGI. I have tried many options on my Pin including leaving it blank. Turbo Tax keeps rejecting our taxes.
For Efiling, the IRS requires either your 5-digit PIN or your AGI from 2023. If you transferred your 2023 return, your PIN will already be filled in for you.
If this is the first year you are filing jointly, try entering your AGI and your spouse's as $0.
