My employer mistakenly took taxes out of my paycheck for Pennsylvania and Philadelphia in 2024 and I do not live in that state, I live and work in Ohio. They have since rectified the issue, however, what do I need to do to get a refund for those taxes?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You will have to file a nonresident Pennsylvania return to indicate zero PA wages. You will then receive the withholding as a refund.
Thank you!! Can I do that electronically since I live in OH or is there a link to a paper form I need to fill out?
Yes, the easiest way is to use myPATH: A secure, state-only electronic filing system. myPATH is a service offered exclusively through the Department of Revenue. You can prepare and submit your Pennsylvania personal income tax return for free. Since you will file as a nonresident with no income, you will not have a lot to enter. @jrmjen
