Hi gurus,
Somehow my company managed to track where I have travelled part of the year for work. I live in Ohio and work 76 days in georgia last year.
They have provided me a W2 form for both states.
Just say I earn $50,000.
In my ohio state tax (w2), the state wages, tips, etc shows as $50,000. (Box16)
But in my georgia state tax, the state wages, tips shows $9728.15.
Shouldn't my Ohio box 16 be (Box1 $50,000) - ($9728.15)?
How should i go on filing this now in Ohio?

You do not need a corrected W2.
For the Georgia return, TurboTax will calculate how much you owe Georgia and apply the $2000 (so you may have a balance due or refund from Georgia). Then when you do the Ohio return, TurboTax will calculate the tax due, subtract the Georgia amount and apply the Ohio withholding.
For the Georgia income, the money you made is what you got paid for working in Georgia (so the $9728.15). @amazingtax2021
Because you are an Ohio resident, your employer is required to report all wages to Ohio. On your Ohio return, you will get a credit for any taxes paid to Georgia, but all income is required to be reported by state residents. You will want to file your Georgia nonresident return first, then the Ohio to get the credit properly applied.
Thanks Mary.
So, for now, i dont need my employer to amend any of my w2 right?
And, if the box17 under GA State (w2) shows $2000. Does this mean ohio will reimburse me that, and turbotax will show it ?
When doing the non-resident, it ask did you make money in georgia in 2022, but never live there?
How do i know if i make money there or not? My same company is paying from the same location.

Last question. I promise 🙂
When mailing the Ohio state forms, do i have to include Goegia W2 state form as well?
Vice-versa, when mailing Georgia state forms, do i have to include Ohio state W2?
If you live in Ohio you will have to include all W-2's, but you will only have to send the W-2 that had GA income to Georgia.
