Moving states and filing

Hello, I lived in SC for 6 months where I made all of my income and then moved to NYC for the last 6 months of the year. I did not work while in NYC only in SC. When filing do I have to do split state taxes or can I just file for SC only? Thank you

Moving states and filing

It depends. You will file a South Carolina part-year tax return for the six months you lived in SC in 2025 and will claim the income you earned while living there.

If you did not earn any income while you lived in New York and did not have any NY-source income during the year, you probably do not need to file a 2025 NY part-year tax return.

Here is an article from the NY Department of Tax and Finance that discusses the filing requirement for part-year residents.
