Local employee of US embassy

I am a US Citizen permanently residing in foreign country. I have been hired by US Consulate here as a local employee. I do not receive any allowances like housing or anything else. I am not a foreign service or military personnel. I do pay US taxes. Do I qualify to claim foreign earned tax exclusion?

No, you will not qualify for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion because you are getting paid by the US government as an employee of the US embassy.

From the IRS Foreign Earned Income Exclusion website:

"Foreign earned income does not include the following amounts: Pay received as a military or civilian employee of the U.S. Government or any of its agencies"
