Living in multiple residences in 2016

Hello, I lived in an apartment for the first half of 2016 and a private home for the second half. When filling stuff out it only asked me for one option, and then my "total rent paid in 2016" so I added the total of the apartment + the private home. Is this correct? If not, please help

As long as you actually paid rent and did not own either home, then you would add the total rent amounts together.
