Live in TX Worked in CA part of the year; how are the CA taxes calculated?

I have lived in TX all year but worked a small part of the year in CA. I know I need to file CA state taxes but am unable to determine how they are actually being calculated. The 540NR form appears to be using my total taxable income to calculate CA state taxes and not just the wages I earned while working in CA (as reported on my W-2). Can anyone explain how this works? Thanks in advance!

You will need to need to "allocate" the portion of your earnings that were earned while you were living in CA.   See the TurboTax FAQ below for explanation on how to calculate this.   Of course, you will have only the non-resident return for CA and no return for TX.
