You don't enter that number, the ERO does. ERO is "Electronic Return Originator", i.e., the company that e-files your return.

The Instructions (which are for the e-filing company) state "Submission Identification Number (SID) Enter the 20-digit Submission Identification Number (SID) assigned to the tax return, after the taxpayer completes Part II." That is, YOU don't enter the SID, the ERO does.

Don't I need the number on my copy of the 8879-K for my records?

The previous software that I used would update the form after my return was accepted by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

I guess you mean that when your return was accepted by Kentucky, that it was at that point the SID was assigned by the state and that software plugged it in then?

I doubt that TurboTax does that. When you save a copy of your return (including the 8879-K) in Print Center, TurboTax doesn't change it unless you amend the return.

But this is not a problem. Since your Social Security number is on the form, they will know that your return was e-filed if they see this form.

Really, the SID is an issue between the State Department of Revenue and the ERO (i.e., TurboTax) in case they need to audit anything (not tax audit, but transmission audit). So don't worry about it.

I don’t seem to be able to find the 8879-K form filled out to retain for my records.  How do I find it?

It is included as part of your KY tax return, @Mgilbert385 -  Save and view the PDF copy of your tax return to find the KY e-file declaration page.
