information on my eFiled Turbo Tax refund

I began filing my taxes in March 2021 but moved on April 1st and finished filing on April 10th. I received an email that my refund would be deposited on May 1st but it is still pending and I don't know why. I owe the state and I had it set up for them to take their part from the federal refund. Now I am worried that I may have to pay a penalty to the state because my refund is in limbo. How can I find out if a letter was mailed out from the IRS to my old address for any corrections that needed to be made?

First of all federal and state are completely separate.   You misunderstood. It is not possible to have the state tax due deducted from a federal refund. You might have had the Turbo Tax fees deducted from your refund.

The state tax can not be deducted from the federal refund. NEVER. You can only have the Turbo Tax fees deducted. You will still get the full federal refund minus any fees you had deducted. Turbo Tax just shows you a screen at the end showing the Net amount of federal and state combined. But it is just for your own info. You do still have to pay the state yourself separately. See,

Check the printout or PDF of your return; look for the state cover sheet with the Turbo Tax logo. If you owed tax, it will show the payment information and how/when you decided to pay. Read the state payment instructions carefully since most states cannot be paid from within the TT system and requires additional steps.

You might have to mail a check or pay directly on the state's website.

No ma'am. No misunderstanding. Both of my daughters had their state deducted from their federal refund also.  At the end of my filing it asked me how I wanted to pay the state and a deduction from my federal refund was one of the options so that's the one I chose.  Thanks for the information though.

Sorry.  But you can not have the tax due deducted from the refund.  Only the Turbo Tax fees.  Did you read the links I posted?  Hope Your daughters state tax due got paid.  They better check their bank accounts.  If their federal refund was reduced it was for the Turbo Tax fees or the IRS Adjusted their return.

Your only proof of payment is your bank statement or credit card showing the payment coming out.  Turbo Tax only passes your bank account number to the state for the state to take it out of your account.  But most states do not let you pay by Direct Debit so you have to mail in a check or go directly to the state's website to pay.

No one else has access to your account or your tax return.  Look at it yourself.  Did you pay your state tax due?  TurboTax never knows how, when or even if you paid your tax.  Your only proof that you paid is your own bank/credit card records.

Your state tax due cannot be paid from your federal refund.

It is not possible to pay your state tax due from your federal refund, nor is it possible to pay a federal tax due from a state refund.  The federal and state treasuries are completely separate from each other.  You may have seen a TurboTax summary of your federal and state amounts that confused you into thinking one was “paying” the other.  It is not.  If you have federal tax due you can pay by mailing your payment with the 1040V voucher, (which has the address printed on it, having the payment taken out of a designated bank account, or you can pay directly on the IRS website.

You must pay your state tax due using the state’s preferred method of receiving payment.  For most states that will be by making a payment to the state’s own tax website, or by mailing a check or money order.
