If your federal wage info in boxes 1ā14 is the same (or blank on one W-2), and the state info in boxes 15ā17 (or local info in boxes 18ā20) is different, youāll enter both on the same W-2 screen. Enter all the info from the most complete W-2, then enter the different state and local info from the other W-2.
See this help article for more information.
If this is not the issue, please provide more information as to the nature of the problem you are seeing with the state taxes section of your W-2.
Hi @MonikaK1,
Thanks for trying to resolve my conflict. Unfortunately, it didnāt resolve my situation.
The two previous companies Iāve been at both used Sequoia One for HR and tax filing purposes. This led me to receive one unified single tax document (both are same EIN due to Sequoia One helping in filing the taxes) that covers my employment from the two companies that are BOTH in California. But because theyāre both California-based, TurboTax registers my tax document as an error since there are filings that are needed to be done in box 15 that is seen as a duplicate due to the state being the same but employerās state ID numbers are completely different.
TurboTax does say there is an error when you create two Box 15 entries for the same state. However, if you Click the "OK it's fixed" button, the error disappears. The error will appear again in the Review and, again, you can click the "Ok, it's fixed" button and the program continues.
I recommend that you attempt to e-file after taking these steps. Please advise us as to whether you are able to e-file.
Hi @MonikaK1 ,
Thank you for the message. Iāve done this money times but it doesnāt allow me to move past the fixed errors as it continues to state that my input is wrong and that I cannot have two CA state filings occurring.
Best,
Darren
I tested the situation in the same TurboTax product and was able to get through to the File section by clicking "OK, it's fixed", both in the W-2 screen and in the Review screen.
I recommend deleting the W-2, entering it again, following the steps above, and attempting to e-file the return. Please advise as to whether this is successful.
@MonikaK1,
Hello. So I've tried deleting the W-2 and went through the same segment of "OK, it's fixed" but when I get to the File state (the last stage in filing), it always comes back to the
"Let's make sure everything is accurate: We're close to finishing up to e-file. But we found a couple little things on your federal return that need fixing.
Let's take care of these now.
If you're not able to fix these issues, you will return to this screen and you can print the return by selecting File by Mail."
I just don't want to keep having to go through the same circle process of 'fixing' something that won't even be recognized as a fixed state on your guys' end.
It would be best to follow the instructions here to speak with us by phone so we can better assist you. @darrensshin
