I temporarily live in Virginia for work, but my home is in Texas and so is my employer, so I have to pay Virginia state taxes?

I'm on an Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) Assignment which means that I work in Virginia at the NSF but my home institution (university) in Texas pays my salary. This is a temporary (less than a year) position. So, do I have to file taxes in Virginia even though my employer is in Texas and this is a temporary position?

Yes, since you worked in VA, even as a non-resident, you will need to file a VA tax return and pay taxes on your VA source income.

If your VA adjusted gross income is greater than $11,950 (Single or Married Filing Separate) or $23,900 (Married Filing Joint), then you are required to file a VA tax return.
