In mid-February I filed my taxes electronically with CA. I owed money and subsequently paid it in full. I later discovered I made a mistake that resulted in me receiving a refund instead of owing money. I filed an amended return (it was accepted by CA) in late March. I know I likely won't hear from them for 4 - 6 months. But today I received a small refund from the State of CA for an amount that does not relate to either of the tax forms I filed. I have been unsuccessful in finding out why I got, and am concerned if it may relate to the amended return. Can anyone shine some light on how I can find out what this refund is for?
Thank you

It might be a challenge to find out the exact reason from this public forum because we don't have access to your tax return or TurboTax account. The most likely explanation is that with the American Rescue Plan Act there was some substantial changes at the Federal Tax level, but some of which changed state items as well. The 10200 unemployment exemption had no effect in California because California doesn't tax unemployment anyways. But the changes in Healthcare might have, because California has it's own Healthcare system. And there are other possibilities.
California should send you correspondence that explains the reason. And they will also advise you any status on the amended return. And if the process plays out and you don't agree with the result, you can always contact them and follow their instructions so you can prove your case.
