You'd only file NC for 2018 if you actually lived in, OR worked in NC during 2018. (Also if you owned a rental property in NC during 2018...that would require a NC tax return as long as you owned the rental property).

Of course, if you are in the military and from NC, you will have to file an NC tax return for all of your income no matter wher you are based, until you either leave the service, or change you state of legal residence (SLR) with a bunch of legal forms (DD2058)
