I physically moved to IL in Nov 2018 for a new job. I had income in TX (10.5 months) and IL (1.5 months). Home and family in TX until 2019. Am I a resident of IL in 2018?

Started job Nov 19, 2018 in IL. Family stayed in TX to sell our home.  I am living in AirBnB as we sell home in TX and buy home in IL.  We will own a home in IL in early 2019 but unsure if I am a resident of IL for 2018 tax purposes.

You're not a resident of IL for tax purposes until the day you begin living in your new home in IL.  Temporary lodging such as a hotel room or Airbnb does not establish residency.

But your income from working in IL is taxable by IL.  So for 2018 you will have to file a non-resident IL return.

In the My Info section of TurboTax, enter TX as your State of Residence, but answer Yes to the question about having income from other states.  Enter IL as the Other State.

**Answers are correct to the best of my ability but do not constitute tax or legal advice.
