I made less than $15 in a state for which I am a non-resident. Do I have to submit a state tax return for that state?

I have two non-resident W-2s. One is for less than $15 and one is for less than $400 (due to business trips). Do I need to file state taxes for these? States are PA and CO.

You are required to file a Colorado state return and you may be required to file a Pennsylvania state return.

You are required to file a 2018 Pennsylvania nonresident return if:

  • You received total PA gross taxable income in excess of $33, even if no tax is due with your PA return; and/or
  • You incurred a loss from any transaction as an individual, sole proprietor, partner in a partnership or PA S corporation shareholder.

You are required to file a 2018 Colorado nonresident return if:

You are required to file a federal income tax return and you had taxable Colorado-source income.
