I have lived in Texas for 3 years, I started working for a company in Virginia 2 years ago. I have always paid state taxes to Virginia, even though I live in Texas. Should I not be paying taxes to Virginia?

Yes. You are required to file taxes in the state where you reside and work. If your employer is situated in Virginia (VA) but you physically work in Texas (TX) then your employer should not be taking VA withholding and a tax return is not required in the state of Virginia.
Information below will be helpful to understand and should be used for your 2017 tax return.

You could amend the VA taxes for the past years immediately if you are not and have not been domiciled in VA. See the instructions below. Although your federal return will not change it is part of the VA tax return so you can use TurboTax and choose to amend your return.
I reside in Texas, but physically work as a tour guide in Virginia for parts of the year as well as other states. Do I pay state taxes for VA, nothing is in the state boxes on my W-2?
If you made enough to be required to file a return, you should. PA requires a return at $33 while other state have large numbers, like VA to be required to file.
