Yes, that is true. You will not need to file in FL unless you have business or rental tangible personal property. (If reporting tangible personal property, you would complete Form DR-405 and submit it by mail to your local property appraiser by April 1.)
Florida does not have a state individual income tax related to wages so you do not need to file an income tax return with the state.
So, if you do not have a business or rental real estate with assets in Florida, you do not need to prepare or file the Florida return in TurboTax.
If you can, go back into TurboTax, under the state taxes tab and delete Florida from your list of state returns. If not just don't file the FL state tax return.
Please note that you will not have a delete option until you actually start working on the state. Select that you want to start the state return under the state taxes tab. The system will start calculating. Then go back into the state tab at the top of the screen and you should now get a choice for that state to either continue or delete. You won't be charged for just starting the state return. You are only charged when you are getting ready to file.

Hi, I moved to Fl in December 2022 and I don't need to file a FL return but every time I clicked "done" with state returns, TurboTax kept returning to the screen asking me "why not finish with your state returns" and listed "FL Part Year Resident". How can I bypass/skip this screen? I cannot delete Fl from state returns since I did not prepare it. The only option is to click "continue" and TurboTax would take me to the screen to make purchase! This is so frustrating. Why do I have to pay for a state return that is NOT required? Why does TurboTax even list FL state return? I saw people tricked into paying for it and unable to get refund! TurboTax should have this issue fixed long time ago!
The Florida return in TurboTax is to report tangible personal property that is used in a Florida-located business or rental property and is filed with the county property appraiser.
If you do not have a business or rental real estate in Florida with tangible personal property to report, you do not need to prepare or file the Florida return in TurboTax.
If TurboTax has started a Florida return even if you don't need to file it, please see below for how to remove or bypass that state return, depending on which version of software you are using.
If you are using the TurboTax CD/Download software, you can go to the File tab, and on the Select the Returns You're Ready to E-file screen, choose "Do not e-file my state return now" and then proceed to e-file your federal.
If you are using the TurboTax Online version, see this help article for steps to delete the state return; if you haven't paid or registered it yet. Otherwise, select Skip State to skip preparing a Florida return when it brings you to the state section.
