See this article on how to file a joint federal return and file separate state returns…..

You need to do 3 separate federal returns. One for Joint and 1 for each spouse to do the mock separate federal return to do the separate state returns.

If you are using the online version it will be cheaper and easier to do it in the desktop version. Contact Customer Service to give you the desktop program download.

It all depends upon the state tax law of the nonresident state.  What state do you need to report income to?

TurboTax Online within the state income tax return will give you the options that are available to you.

Make sure that My Info for both you and your spouse correctly report state information.

Assuming you both live in FL and since you are both nonresidents of GA and only you have GA source income, then yes, you can file a joint federal return and a separate GA nonresident return with only your income and deductions.

The easiest way to do this is with a TurboTax desktop (CD/Download) product.  There you can create and file a joint federal return and then create a "Mock" federal separate return with only your income/deductions.  This will allow the creation of your separate GA state return.  The mock federal separate return will not be filed so the GA state return will need to be printed/mailed.

Here is the GA reference (See page 9).
