How to enter 2019 tax refund credit to 2020 state income tax, ohio

If you need to enter your 2019 refund applied to 2020, please follow these steps: 

1. Open your tax return.
2. Search for estimated tax payments with the magnifying glass tool on the top of the page. 
3. Click on the Jump to estimated tax payments link at the top of the search results.
4. Scroll down to the section titled 2019 Refund Applied to 2020.
5. Select Start for the state section.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Try this instead.  Log back into TurboTax and select any input section. 

1. Then select State in the black panel on the left hand side of your screen.
2. This will take you to a screen titled Let's get your state taxes done right.  Click continue on this screen.
3. You will see the following screen titled Status of your state returns.  Select Edit to the right of Ohio to review your entries.

Proceed through the screens until you see the screen titled Your 2020 Ohio taxes are ready for us to check.

1. Select Edit to the right of Other situations
2. Under Other situations on the page titled A few things before we wrap up your state taxes, select Apply your refund to next year's taxes.

On the next screen titled Apply Refund to Your 2021 Taxes, you will be able to check the box to apply part or all of your refunds to 2021.  Make your selections according to your preference.  This will apply your overpayment and allow you to proceed with your tax returns.
